The magic of the “magical words” of facebook

What’s the 1st thing that comes to your mind when I say that this is a beautiful pic why don’t you share it with our whole group? Sharing it on Facebook? It’s an amazing piece of art, why don’t you put it on my wall? Surely it’s the fb wall that will strike your mind and not the wall of your room which could also be a possibility. If I say update your status then it’s not necessary that I am talking about the fb update. It’s actually the grave impact of social media on us which has made our thinking unidirectional. The broader prospects of thinking are tapering.

Words such as update, status, like, wall, poke, post, reply are just linked to the virtual life and its existence in our routine life is fading or probably losing its originality. Social media since past 5 yrs. has evolved as a medium giving young people a new interface to interact and communicate with the world. Social media websites have become ubiquitous. Words commonly used in our daily lives have now become the most important or say “magical words” of social websites and technology has raised the amount of free speech of such words to a newer platform.

There was a time when voting was a term used for electing political parties but now it’s more recurrently used as voting for the best program or movie on a facebook page. The word poke no longer exists with its inventive meaning. If we talk about relationship status then we can’t think beyond committed or single. Social websites have even evaded the concept of calling. Now it’s just a message “online aaja” that says it all and then starts the communication process in the virtual world.

The other day when I was online on facebook I read a friend’s status saying, “I luv fb coz writin on others wall has been my hobby since I ws 6.” It shows the different ways in which words are now interpreted by people after the evolving of social websites. The scenario has undeniably been altered leaving a profound impact on the daily lives of the people providing them with a newer and wider platform to express.
